Design

The Fast Frame Tent series, the Lumos Tent series, and the BlockOut Tent series all have a similar design. They are all made from heavy-duty materials, and they are all well built.

The only difference between the three versions is that the BlockOut version blocks light by up to 95% and reduces heat inside the tent by up to ten degrees.

The Lumos version has integrated LED lighting, which is very useful at night.

The tents are made from 1500-3000mm rated Ripstop polyester, which is a thick and durable material. The floors are made from tough Polyoxford, which is also very strong. These tents are well built and should last for many years.

Size

The Fast Frame Tent series, the Lumos Tent series, and the BlockOut Tent series all have three different sizes:

The Fast Frame Tent series, the Lumos Tent series, and the BlockOut Tent series are all quite spacious. The BlockOut version is the most spacious, followed by the Lumos version, and then the Fast Frame version.

The BlockOut tent is also the widest of the three tents. It has a large side door on one side and an oversized front door on the other. This makes it easy to get in and out of the tent, and it also provides good ventilation.

The Lumos and Fast Frame tents both have zippered internal dividers, which allow you to create private bedrooms. They also have large front, rear, and side doors for easy access and ventilation.

The Lumos and Fast Frame tents are both quite spacious, but the BlockOut tent is the most comfortable for larger families.

OZtrail Fast Frame Tent Size

The Fast Frame Tent series is the lightest, ranging in weight from 11 to 21kg. The Blockout is heavier, ranging from 15 to 33kg and finally the Lumos is the beefiest, coming in at 18 to 38kg.

There tends to be a mixed opinion about the weight, some people say that they are lighter than expected and others disagree. Personally, I believe the numbers may seem heavy at first glance but are actually pretty light when considering their size.

Overall, the Fast Frame Tent series, the Lumos Tent series, and the BlockOut Tent series are all great tents that provide a lot of space and are well built.

They are perfect for large families or groups of people who want to camp together. The only downside is that they are a bit heavy, but this is to be expected with such large tents.

Weatherproofing

The FastFrame Tent series, Lumos Tent series and BlockOut tents are all weatherproof. They have a PU rating of up to 3000 mm, which means they're waterproof so you can camp in style without worrying about leaks.

All three tents also come with No-See-Um Mesh panels throughout for total insect protection. This keeps bugs and other pests out of the tent, and it also allows for good ventilation.

These tents are made to last, with all materials being of the highest quality. They'll be perfect for camping no matter what the Australian weather throws at them.

  • I just had a high wind experience in my 6P Blockout fast frame tent, which didn’t go very well at all. When the easterly winds came roaring down the Darling Scarp, south of Perth at about 11pm, we were in for a very rude shock. According to BOM, the winds were sitting between 35-45km/h and gusting to about 60km/h every 2 or so minutes for a sustained 5 hours until about 4am. We didn’t get a wink of sleep. The fly which felt and sounded like it was about to rip itself off at any moment, would hit the tent walls so hard with each gust that it made a very loud sound like a whip cracking, which helped ensure our continued wakefulness. At times it felt like the tent was going to rip itself free of the ground and take off with us in it. (Luckily we had the forethought to replace the tiny and flimsy tent pegs that came with the tent, with some that actually had some purchase with the ground – I also used the two spare guy ropes to tie the tent to our car! – Which is what I think actually saved the tent). To it’s credit, the tent survived the experience quite unscathed, but I’m certain I can see more daylight along the fly seems than before this experience, so the next rain camp will be interesting. The velcro tabs which hold the fly to the tent also look quite stressed. Apart from that its fine. Just thought I’d throw my experience into the mix. CAVEAT: I don’t know if other tents would behave just as badly in these conditions.

  • Having had a Coleman Easy Up 4 person, I am really disappointed with the Oztrail Lumos 6 person. You can stand up in the tent but not in the vestibule or under the awning where most fod prep and leisure time is actually spent. The doorway sags in contrast to the Coleman that has extra pole and support. So you can’t just walk into your tent without stooping. Great summer tent with airflow but the screen roof means that all awnings (and the vestibule) need to be dropped to seal the tent and keep in warmth. Then set up again th next day. Not something you want to spend time doing in Winter. Also not enough internal easy access storage pockets. Lighter than the Coleman (which is why I bought it ) but otherwise a clear loser if you’re tossing up between them
