Caravan Storage Brisbane - Common Questions

Still have questions about caravan storage? Here's a list of the questions we commonly get asked. If your question isn't here, just get in touch with us via the contact form above.

What kinds of storage options are there for caravans?

There's generally 3 different levels of protection when it comes to storing your van:

  • Open sites
  • Undercover shade sail sites
  • Undercover shed sites

The undercover sites tend to cost slightly more than the open sites, though it does mean that your vehicle is protected from hail, storms and the strong Queensland sun!

How much does it cost to store a caravan?

Open sites are the cheapest and tend to start at about $35 per week. Expect to pay about $10 more per week for a shade sail covered site, then another $10 per week on top of that for undercover shed sites.

Caravan pickup and delivery costs extra, as does any other extra services like washing or maintenance.

Short term stay tends to attract higher prices - for stays less than 1 week, expect to pay for the full week.

Are there any size limits on the caravans that can be stored?

Generally speaking, no. Caravan storage sites are built to accommodate everything from tiny camper trailers up to large motorhomes and 5th wheelers.

How do I get my caravan ready for storage?

Here's a (non-exhaustive) list of what to do to get your caravan ready for storage:

  • Thoroughly clean the exterior of the caravan. Inspect for any rust and grease it if necessary.
  • Clear out all loose items from inside the caravan. Anything breakable that could slide around will need to be removed.
  • Drain the water tanks if leaving the caravan in storage for 6 months or more.
  • Empty and thoroughly clean the caravan toilet. Add toilet chemical to kill all bacteria and ensure if it hygienic.
  • Turn off the fridge and clean it out thoroughly.
  • Turn off all other electrical devices. Consider whether to disconnect the caravan battery or whether to keep it charged.
  • Attach a caravan cover to keep it protected from the elements.

What's the maximum length I can store my caravan?

There's no real upper limit here, though if you are storing your caravan for an extended period of time, you will want to consider checking in on it regularly and carrying out some simple maintenance to ensure it is in working order once you are ready to use it again.

Do caravan storage facilities hold insurance?

Yes. Caravan storage depots usually public liability insurance, though there is no guarantee that this will cover your vehicle in the event of damage occurring while in storage.

Speak to the depot to understand what your are covered for while the van is in storage.

How secure are caravan storage facilities?

These facilities are designed to be highly secure and difficult for thieves to access. Deterrents include barbed wire fencing, security personnel and CCTV cameras.

Theft from these facilities is quite rare, in part due to the difficulty involved in breaching the fences, then hooking up a caravan and towing it out of there without getting caught.

If you are worried, you can consider using a trailer hitch lock for extra security.

Can I access my caravan while it is in storage?

Yes. Access is usually allowed from Monday to Friday during business hours, plus on the weekend by appointment.

You are free to come and go as you please during these hours.

Do storage facilities offer extra services like cleaning or maintenance?

No. Most storage facilities don't have these extra services, but can point you in the direction of a trusted, local operator who can clean or service your caravan for you.
