Camping Storage Boxes in Australia

Adventure Kings 78L Tough Storage Box

Adventure Kings 78L Tough Storage Box

Our Pick

Pros
  • Huge capacity
  • Weather-resistant
  • UV resistant
  • Overextension guard hinges
Cons
  • None that we can see!

The Adventure Kings 78L Tough storage box is a huge storage box that is waterproof with a dust and water seal under the lid to keep everything inside safe and sound under the harshest conditions.

It comes with carrying handles on each end for moving around with either one or two people easily and has pad-lockable latches for extra security.

This unit is well-priced for what is a good quality and long-lasting piece of equipment that will enable you to store, transport and use anything you may want while out at the campsite and at a 78L capacity – that could be a lot.

Customer reviews are all very happy and this is a great box at a great price.

Wanderer Storage Box 48L

Wanderer Storage Box 48L

Best For Transport

Pros
  • Adjustable heavy-duty belt handles
  • Over lid tie-down points
  • Water drain plug
  • Additional moulded handles on all sides
Cons
  • Expensive

The Wanderer entry into the storage boxes is their 48L tan coloured box. It has moulded handles built into the box itself and adjustable belt handles for extra ease of movement. The Wanderer has a drain plug too so you can fill it with ice to keep beers cold or for easy cleaning if it gets a bit dirty inside.

This is a great box that will keep everything safe and secure and people who have bought and used it are all very happy.

The main downside is the cost, this box has 30L less capacity than the Kings 78L and costs $100 more and we are not sure that you really get $100 more of extra quality or functionality. A great box for moving around your equipment.

Expedition134 Heavy Duty Plastic Storage Box 55L

Expedition134 Heavy Duty Plastic Storage Box 55L

Best For Boats, Trucks or Caravans

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • The lid holds loads up to 120 kg
  • Water and dustproof
  • Tie-down points that allow you to open the lid
Cons
  • Lacking handles

As the name suggests, the Expedition 134 Heavy Duty Plastic Storage Box 55L is a great camping box that is well suited to taking places.

It's specifically designed for you to place in your boat or the back of your ute and be tied down securely in place. It has an innovative tie-down system that allows you to open the lid while keeping it secure in place.

Not only that, but this box can take an extra 120 kg of weight on top of it if needed while moving around.

While it does have moulded sides that can be used as handles, this box doesn’t have any external ones on the sides.

But that’s about it on the downsides as customer satisfaction with this box is very high, especially if used as designed and kept secure and on hand in your boat or truck.

All4Adventure End Opening Storage Case 90L

All 4 Adventure End Opening Storage Case 90L

Best Large Box

Pros
  • Massive 90L capacity
  • Stainless steel bottle opener included
  • Drainage plug for easy cleaning
  • Textured surface to hide scratches
Cons
  • It’s expensive

The All4Adventure Storage Case is a massive 90L box that has the biggest capacity on this list at almost twice the previous two boxes. That being said, trying to carry this full of heavy equipment or food is now more of a challenge.

This camping box also comes with a tie-down system that allows you to keep it secure in the back of a ute, SUV or even smaller vehicles and still be able to open the lid.

It has pad-lockable latches so you have peace of mind everything is always safe and secure inside. Like the Wanderer, this box is expensive and we are not sure what you get extra at that price.

Yes, it's huge, but these boxes are all similar in design and construction. Users love it and if you need something this big then you won't be disappointed either.

Boab Wolfpack Storage Box

Boab Wolfpack Storage Box 30L

Best Modular Option

Pros
  • Low priced
  • Lightweight
  • Can stack on top of each other
Cons
  • No carry handles
  • Less durable materials

The Boab Wolfpack Storage Box is smaller than the other boxes on this list, more lightweight and far cheaper at only $40.

It's pretty basic though and doesn't have the features of the others like water and dustproof seal or a drainage plug. This box is designed to be used with other boxes, in that you can stack them on top with different types of items in each box for better organization.

This is a great box to take things from your home to your tent and back again, but it’s not great at being secured to the back of a boat or a truck and left in the elements as it’s not as durable and has air holes which allow dust inside.

This means it’s nowhere near as flexible in its uses as the others, but for $40 it will move your gear around easily enough.

What To Look For When Buying Camping Storage Boxes

A few key considerations when deciding where to spend your money when it comes to camping boxes.

Size

The larger the box, the more you can fit in it, the heavier it becomes and the harder it is to move.

The larger boxes like the Kings 78L are great if they are secured to a vehicle and you pack/unpack them in place.

If you don't intend to use them this way, then the smaller Wanderer or Boab is much easier to pack, move and transport and then open inside a tent.

Price

There is a pretty big range with this product in price. The more expensive options are designed to be outdoors in the elements keeping all your items safe 24/7. The lower-priced like the Boab are designed to be kept indoors.

Final Thoughts

Storage boxes are great at keeping your equipment or items clean, secure and in the place you want them to be.

They're better for storing gear and tools, rather than clothes or food, which are better stored in a camp cupboard.

Whether you have a massive camping box like the All4Adventure or a smaller one like the Expedition134 strapped down semi-permanently in the back of your vehicle, or you have several smaller boxes like the Boab Wolfpack – these boxes will make your life easier.

If you have long bits of gear which won't fit in standard storage boxes, like fishing rods, considering getting a pole carrier instead. These can be attached to the exterior of your vehicle and may better satisfy your needs!
